Ishmael Reed Paper

Simply yet sweet is what a lot of people say about different things in life and in poems; in the poem “.05” Ishmael Reed shows this method by showing that short poems can contain a lot of information while still be short and fun at the same time. In “.05” he starts off the poem by giving a very short title. The poem it self can be confusing at times but if you read it a couple of times you will understand the poem is not really complex. Tone of a poem is key; and in this poem Reed talks to the readers as if we were one of his friends.
“.05” as simply as it seems; its much more then just a number; to the author he thinks of it as a story for many people. When authors write really short titles sometimes it helps them to bring readers in to see what would make the author title this, and so they could understand that titles don’t have to be long draw out names. By giving this title he wants to have the readers thinking before they even start to read the poem.".05" to many people can mean many things, but in this poem he is talking about nickel, which is 5cent.
Understanding all poems is not always an easy task, for readers. In this poem you have to no that he is referring to different things just to make a point. In this poem if you really don’t understand what he is trying to say you might have to read it again and then you will understand.
Tone to me is the most important thing of any story or poem. Reed in this poem talks to the reader as if they were friends. This poem is short but contains great quotes that will have you thinking. This poem is filled with life like lessons that his readers can relate too.
